Non-ionizing radiation (NIR), defined as a form of electromagnetic radiation that does not have enough energy to cause ionization in matter. The NIR spectrum includes ultraviolet (UV), visible light, infrared (IR), microwave (MW), radio frequency (RF), and extremely low frequency (ELF). Tens of thousands of mobile and telephone broadcasting base stations exist throughout the country along with electricity lines, transformer stations, microwaves and more. All of these radiation sources are monitored, and the Ministry of the Environment authorizes inspectors to measure radiation from base stations, microwaves, the electricity grid, transformer rooms in buildings and transformer stations.
