WATEC Israel 2007 Updated: 8/07/2008
Israel's International Water Technologies and Environmental Control Exhibition and Conference- WATEC 2007 took place in Tel Aviv on October 30-November 1, 2007. According to the organizers, WATEC will reinforce Israel's position as the "Silicon Valley" of the global water and environmental technologies market, a part of a national initiative to accelerate development of new water technologies. In his opening address to the WATEC international conference, Environmental Protection Minister Gideon Ezra declared: "We, at the Ministry of Environmental Protection, are convinced that economic progress and environmental protection are closely linked. We are certain that the development and implementation of environmental technologies is a "win-win" situation: it will catalyze the development of an industry with significant export potential, it will ensure a cleaner environment in Israel and quality of life to its residents, and it will promote regional and international cooperation for the improvement of the environment. It will have an impact not only on our own generation but on generations to come." The water industry - the fifth among global industrial sectors - shows a 10% annual growth rate. The WATEC Israel exhibition served as a meeting venue for Israeli and international technological innovations and solutions, on the one hand, and large-scale market players, on the other hand. It created a global market place for state-of-the-art technologies relevant to the Israeli and international environmental industries in such fields as water, reduction of environmental nuisances, alternative energy etc. The exhibition was organized jointly by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Employment, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel Trade Fairs & Convention Center, Kenes Exhibitions and Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, in collaboration with the Israel Water Commission and the Waterfronts - Israel Water Alliance. The three-day event attracted exhibitors and visitors from companies, organizations, voluntary and public bodies, entrepreneurs and investors worldwide, including a hundred business delegations and 35 ministers and deputy ministers. Hundreds of companies exhibited their environmental technologies at Tel Aviv's Exhibition Gardens and more than 30,000 visitors, including 2,500 foreign visitors reviewed the displayed technologies. Delegations that came especially to examine Israeli technologies hailed from such countries as India, Australia, Canada, china, Brazil, Germany, Taiwan, the USA, France, South Africa, Jordan and many more. During the exhibition, several international conferences were held along with some 13 professional conferences organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Some 130 lecturers from 92 countries addressed the conferences. For further details, please see the WATEC website.
