Availability of nationwide data on air quality is a prerequisite for air quality management. Over one hundred air quality monitoring stations provide data on air pollution in Israel, of which about a quarter are operated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection within the framework of a national air monitoring system. Monitoring results in recent years have confirmed the severity of air pollution, especially in the country's urban centers, but major efforts are currently concentrating on reducing pollution levels through a variety of measures.
